These are my graduate lecture and recitation notes for Design for This Century at Parsons School of Design, New York. First year, fall 2018. My first semester. The first stop on the Parsons Years study path on my notes page.
Before Parsons, I studied Electronics and Communication Engineering at BITS Pilani. Engineers think in systems: inputs, outputs, feedback. Parsons gave my engineering instinct a design vocabulary, and Design for This Century was where that vocabulary started. Systems thinking runs through this course, and that thread made sense to me from the beginning.
In 2013, from a hostel room, I put my handwritten notes online at akshansh.net so others could learn from them. Since 2013, at least one person in the world studies from my notes every single day. They are free.
If you are following the Parsons Years path, start here. The notes cover the full course: lecture material and recitation.
