I wrote this down before I could even find my original note. That told me it was worth keeping.
The idea came up in conversation in August twenty twenty-six, about the facilities of a pharma company I work with. They run hundreds of cameras, fed into several recorders. The software they use shows one screen at a time. You cannot open many feeds side by side.
I sketched a desktop camera manager. One window for the whole facility. A registry with each camera's location, zone, and health. A review mode for audits, with digests and flagged motion.
Nothing is built yet. I am still thinking through the idea. But an idea worth writing down deserves a page.

I logged this in August 2026, for the facilities of a pharma company. The idea came up in conversation, and I wrote it down before I had even found my original note. That told me it was worth keeping.
The problem is straightforward. Hundreds of cameras. Several recorders. The software they use shows one screen at a time, with no parallel windows and no way to watch many feeds at once. A facility that size deserves a better way to see itself.
I have in mind a desktop-first camera manager. One window. You watch feeds, organise them and review them across the whole facility from one place. A camera registry holds the essentials for every camera: location, zone, recorder, health status. An audit-friendly review mode is built around half-hour digests and flagged motion, so nothing important slips through in retrospect.
The final name is still to be decided. Nothing is built yet. This is brainstorming, a footprint staked before the ground is broken.
An idea worth keeping deserves a page, even before it has code.
