In this project, I used typography to recreate the title sequence of John Carpenter’s 1978 film Halloween using the same iconic soundtrack. The work is inspired by the title design legacies of Saul Bass and Maurice Binder — two designers who established the kinetic, graphic language of the modern film title sequence.
The sequence strips the horror of the film down to its typographic essentials: letterforms become vehicles for tension, pacing, and dread. Rather than relying on imagery or montage, the animation uses the movement and arrangement of type alone to build the atmospheric intensity associated with the film.
Working with the original soundtrack as both constraint and guide, the timing of each typographic event is locked to the music, allowing the audio to amplify the visual rhythm. The result is a title sequence that pays homage to the graphic design traditions of classic cinema while reinterpreting a well-known film through a purely typographic lens.
